8 secret ways to use Siri as your personal assistant

Once you start using these little tricks, you'll never be able to go back. Seriously, they're THAT good. While writing each and every tip, I though to myself... how in the world did I ever live without Siri?

Really, she's like my BFF these days. We talk almost more than I talk to my husband lol. She's my life saver.

1. Keep You On Schedule

So my schedule varies day by day. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are my full working days. These are the days my daughter goes to preschool all day, so my schedule differs on these days, from Tuesdays and Fridays.

It's super important that I stay on schedule those 3 days my daughter is at school. If not, I end up working on the weekend (ugh). So it's important to work with Siri in order to keep my butt on schedule throughout the day, everyday.

This is where alarms and timers come in. 3 days a week I have to wake up early in order to get make breakfast, get lunches made and the hubby and kid out the door on time. So, I had Siri set an alarm at 6:30am every Mon, Tues, & Thurs.

I also make sure she keeps me on track throughout the day, all day.

For example, once I get back to the office from dropping off my daughter in the morning, I have Siri set a timer for 1 hour to check and reply to emails. Yes, just one hour of this, otherwise, I could be emailing all day long. I have so many other things to do and don't want to get lost in the world of emails so I give myself just one hour to sort through emails and then I make sure to move on.

I then have Siri set another alarm for 15 minutes. This is my 15 minute break to do what I like, have a snack, grab a cup of coffee, finish getting ready for the day, sometimes I apply this 15 minutes to my email time if it's a crazy inbox kind of day (although, I try not to).

I'll then have Siri set an alarm for 11am. From 11-12 is when I set aside time for inspiration. I'm constantly working on new prints and future collections and finding inspiration is key. Whether it's scouring Pinterest, magazines, going for a walk outside, etc. I designate one hour to be creative.

Then at 12 I'll have Siri set a timer for 1 hour. Lunch break.... whoop whoop! The timer keeps me on track, to make sure I don't go over an hour (which is tempting when you work from home). Or even under an hour, it's super important for me to take the full hour, otherwise, I get burnt out. I make a promise to myself that I won't do any work during my hour timer. Sometimes I turn on an episode of How I Met your Mother while I eat to keep me occupied lol.

I do this throughout my day. If I'm working on a blog post, I allow myself a certain amount of time in order to help keep me productive, no distractions. Otherwise, I get distracted... a phone call from mom, text message from a friend, social media updated, etc.

Setting alarms and timers throughout the day is essential for my productivity level and keeping me on track. If I give myself 2 hours to finish a blog post, I set timer and stick to it.

Here's what you do:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Hey Siri, set an alarm for 12pm"
  3. or "Hey Siri, set a timer for 1 hour"
  4. She then will say something like, "okay, I've set your alarm"

She's like your personal assistant that keeps you on track all day long. Reminding you of your next task and assignment.

Trust me, once you start using alarms and timers... you won't be able to stop. They are freaking addicting and incredibly useful.

2. Manage Your Calendar

So before I started using Siri to manage my calendar, I was constantly running around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Seriously, I was forgetting about appointments until the very last minute, scheduling appointments at the same time and I even missed a few.

I was seriously losing my mind. Then I discovered that Siri could book all my appointments and meetings for me. Without me having to manually enter them. Where have you been all my life Siri? I love you!

So I've had Siri insert all my weekly recurring appointments, monthly appointment and meetings here and there.

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Set up a meeting at 3pm next Thursday with Julia Thompson".
  3. Or "set up a meeting every Tuesday with Julia Thompson at 3pm".
  4. Your meetings will now be scheduled in your calendar, along with alerting Julia Thompson (as long as she's in your contacts) of your meetings too.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure every single doctors appointment I have scheduled from now until the end of the year is already booked in my calendar. Cheers to no more scrambling at the last minute trying to make it on time. I always set up a reminder for the day before and one hour before too, this way Siri keeps my ass in gear lol

3. Remind You of Important Tasks

Oh man, I seriously don't know where my life would be if Siri didn't reming me every single day of the things I needed to get done.

When using this tip, I always imagine I have an assistant who's desk is right outside my door, constantly coming by my office, standing in the doorway and yelling in... "just a reminder that your meeting with so-and-so starts in 15 minutes". Let's call this assistant Darla. Oh Darla, what would I do without you?

Even while writing this post, I needed to remember to stop and eat lunch, otherwise I'd just keep going and completely forget to eat (it happens sometimes when I'm in the groove).

So when I sat down to get started, I had made sure to have Darla remind me to take a lunch break at 12:30 pm. And like the assistant of the year, she totally did. Mmmm pizza!

So here's what you do:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Hey Siri, remind me to take a lunch break at 12:30 pm today"
  3. She'll then say something like, "okay, I'll remind you".

Other things I use reminders for (seriously it's for everything, she runs my life):

  • Remind me to send that important email to Julia today at 11am
  • Remind me to leave the house by 7:15am so I'm not late for my meeting today
  • Remind me to pick up my daughter at 3:15pm (sometimes I get so busy I lose track of time, don't judge lol).
  • Remind me to pick up the tees tomorrow at 5:30pm
  • Remind me tomorrow at 9am that I have a lunch date at 12pm
  • Remind me to post about our sale on Instagram tomorrow
  • Remind me every Monday at 10am to track my social media growth

This is just a tiny list of what I use reminders for. Seriously, once you start using Siri for this... you'll become addicted! But, you're welcome ;)

4. Jotting Down Notes on the Go

So other day I was planning, organizing and mapping out my net photo shoot for my next collection. You know, putting together looks and what items I need for each look.

Now, I don't have a staff of 20 to help me with this (hopefully soon!). So I utilized Siri the best way I could. And let me tell you, it made the process a freaking breeze and so easy to do. So glad I had her help with this one.

While looking for inspiration like magazines, Pinterest, social media etc. I'd get an idea that would work perfectly. So in order to keep my hand free and to keep my head in the zone I'd tell Siri to jot down notes for me.

So by the end of my brainstorming, I had a complete list and notes of everything I needed all in one place. A list of notes that I could just go back and refer to whenever I needed. It literally was like having a personal assistant working on this project with me.

Here's what you do:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Note, Look #1 white tee, cactus leggings, black sandals and snap back hat. Look #2 Green tee, pineapple leggings, white sandals and sun hat with sunglasses" etc.
  3. Siri then saves these notes in the Note app in your phone

Siri made the complete list FOR me without me having to do a thing. Best personal assistant ever right?

5. Making Calls - Getting FedEx on the Phone

You know in the movies how the big boss is always calling out to their assistant right outside their door... "hey Maggie can you get Earl with The Johnson Company on the phone for me"? Yeah, how would it be to have a million dollar office with workers all around at your beck and call?

Well, we can totally pretend to be the big shot when using Siri for phone calls, I do!

Have a package going to a SUPER important client that you need to track like now? No need to go scouring the internet for FedEx's customer service hotline, Siri's like a rolodex ( you know, that thing we used to use in the 90's with everyone contact info?)

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Hey Siri, call FedEx"
  3. If you have the contact in your phone, she'll instantly pull it up. If not, She'll say something like "I don't see FedEx in your contacts, should I look for a business with that name?". You'll then say yes.
  4. You can also find businesses in certain areas for you too by saying something like "call xyz in Salt Lake City, Utah". She'll then pull up nearby businesses with that name.

Keep in mind, you can do this with any business or any contact you have in your phone. Need to get your local distributor on the phone? Need to find a screen printer in your area and ask for a quote? Need to call and book an appointment with the Blow Dry Bar down the street? Siri's happy to help.

6. Send Emails & Messages For You

Alright, I ain't gunna lie... I use this gem multiple times a day, all day long. Wondering how in the world I EVER lived without it.

Texting or emailing and driving is possibly the worst things you can do. Please, please just don't do it! There really is NO need, especially when you've got your butler to do it for you.

I get out of a meeting early, hop in my car and need to text my husband that he doesn't need to pic up our daughter from school, I'm already on my way. Instead of picking up my phone and start typing, I simply just tell my assistant to do it. Yup, Siri does that too.

Here's what you need to do ( you can use this for email to, just say email instead of text):

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Hey Siri, text Pete... You don't need to pick up Allie today, I'm on my way right now (period) See you soon" <--- in order to get the period in there, or exclamation point or question mark... you DO have to actually say "period" and Siri inserts it for you.
  3. If you have more than one person with that name in your contact, she'll ask which one. You can either click the contact she pulls up, or just say the first and last name.
  4. She will then say something like "are you ready to send your message?'
  5. Say "yes" or "Send" or hit the button Send and she shoots into virtual space for you.

Seriously, I use Siri for text or emails all day long, even when I'm not driving. If I'm just sitting at my desk, walking or even eating lunch... I almost never take the time to manually text or email anymore. It's just SO much faster when she does it FOR you!

If you receive a text while driving, or just simply on the go can't be bothered with reading your phone right now, just do this:

  1. Hold down the Home button
  2. Say something like "Hey Siri, read me that last text"
  3. Then Siri reads you your text and who it's from
  4. Whoop whoop!

Super easy right? I always feel like the boss in The Devil Wear Prada every time I do this lol. Walking down the halls, having a million things to do and summoning my people to take care of the petty stuff for me.

7. Turn Your Favorite Song On

I don't know about you, but there are just some days I'm totally feeling it from the minute I step into my office. Feeling like I can conquer the world.

Other days, I stumble in still in my PJ's and just have the hardest time finding motivation. So what do I do? Turn on my favorite song to help get me to "my place". You know, the I'm Beyonce for a day place lol.

These are the days I need some music, something to change my mood stat. So what do I do? I call my butler Geoffrey (like the Fresh Prince of Bel Air lol) to turn on my favorite song. AKA... Siri.

Here's what you do:

  1. First, you have to have the song / album stored on your phone (but it's your favorite, of course you have it)
  2. Simple just say "Hey Siri, play Beyonce" and she jumps at your beck and call and says "okay, coming right up".
  3. If you don't have the song on your phone, you can always say something like "Hey Siri, find Rihanna Work on Youtube".
  4. She'll then pull up videos she found relating to Rihanna Work. Just hit the video and it plays.
  5. Voila!

Now you can shake your bootay to your favorite song by the push of a button.

Get the whole office in a better mood by blasting your co-workers favorite song too. Just make sure to turn it loud enough so they can join the fun too ;)

8. Make Reservations for You

Alright, so you've got a business meeting set up at your favorite restaurant. Somehow you've been able to snatch a "chat" with your biggest business crush. You can't wait to pick their brain and figure out how the two of you can work together.

Or maybe you're finally meeting with a friend you met over social media and just realized you both live in the same town, you can finally meet in person.

Only, you totally spaced making a reservation. You're so freaking busy that you forgot the single most important thing... making sure you have a table when you get there. The last thing you want is to show up and wait an hour before being sat. First impression down the freaking toilet right?

No problemo, Siri's got yo' back. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Download the app OpenTable and create a free account
  2. Hold down the Home button and say something like "Hey Siri, I need a restaurant reservation for tonight"
  3. A list of restaurants in your area will pop up, tap the restaurant you want then tap Make Reservation.
  4. Or you can just say "Hey Siri, I need a reservation for tonight at XYZ restaurant".
  5. The OpenTable app will pop right up with available reservation times and you can go ahead and finish making your reservation there.

Easy peasy right?

It literally took you just 30 seconds to save your freaking butt, and make a full on reservation without having to stop writing that email you've been trying to get sent off since this morning.
